Rain and Cobbles and Castles, oh my!

We’ve had a wonderful few days, even Monday when most of our ride was in the rain – real rain, not just misty stuff. It was way more rain than had been forecasted, but none of us balked or bailed as we pedaled out of town on wet cobblestones with huge marble trucks roaring by.  Traffic soon diminished but the rain persisted for all but the last ~ 10km of the ride, a lucky clearing since this section involved a long 6km climb.

Since then, the weather and riding have both been glorious. Rural roads wind through meadows of stunning wildflowers, olive groves, and vineyards. We’ve passed by I-don’t-know-how-many castles perched on hilltops. Today's (Wednesday) ride was the best yet, heading south for 33 miles and ending with a steep climb to the town and castle in Monsaraz. We had lunch on a Monsaraz restaurant’s terrace overlooking Rio Guadiana and the greenery of Spain on the other side.

Here are photos from the past few days (except for rain day when nobody stopped for photo ops).
