Marble vs Granite . . .

When I booked these two tours, I assumed they would cover similar terrain.  Both feature routes through rural areas in the eastern part of the country, sometimes with Spain in view. It turns out, however, that the Alentejo biking tour took place in the limestone / marble / flatter region, while this hiking tour is further north in the mountainous, granite region. The change in scene has been striking.

Today (day five) we are in Serra da Estrela (mountain range of the stars) which looks and feels similar to our Sierra Nevada mountains.  Our journey to our hotel near the top brought a fantastic drop in temperature that was perfect for today’s morning hike. We hiked a short-ish mountain crest loop including a stop-off at a view point with a spectacular view.

Here are various photos from the past few days.
