How About Howth

I’ve been pronouncing it Howth – the ‘how’ part rhyming with ‘cow’ – but it turns out it is Howth-rhymes-with-both.

In any case, we made it here after what I consider to be another feat of travel logistics. From our B&B in Galway, we walked to the train station, rode to the Dublin Heuston station, boarded a crowded city tram to Dublin Connolly station, then boarded a DART train to Howth.  From there, our B&B host kindly picked us up. It’s a good thing because it’s mostly uphill to reach the B&B – more than we’d want to do with our backpacks and roller cases.

Today’s plan is to walk Howth’s Cliff Walk trail, which has several distance options. The weather looks to be perfect (finally) with sunshine and minimal wind. We think we’ll have plenty of company; apparently, Howth is a day-trip getaway for many. Yesterday, we encountered several bus loads full of students, as well groups of pensioners.

Our B&B here is kind of hilarious. Think grandma’s house, with decades of detritus piled on every surface. There are family photos displayed all over, not to mention every greeting card received in, I’m guessing, the past 5 years. We are in small bedroom, constantly having to maneuver around each other as well as our suitcases splayed around out on the floor. Though unpretentious, our hosts are kindly and on-it. There are several other guests here, plus a Ukranian refugee couple whom our host Rosaleen has already employed.

Tomorrow, we’ll take a cab to the airport for our flight to Marseille where we will unravel the mystery of the key-in-a-lockbox dangling from the rail.

Here is Rosaleen's troll garden at our B&B:
