On the Move Again

In keeping with my goal to cram in as much travel as I can before it gets too onerous (i.e., I get too old), a new adventure awaits.  The hubs is coming with this time, and it’s another cycling trip. My intention is to post blog entries that aren’t cycling-centric in hopes of not boring most readers. But for fellow pedalers, I’ll include some cycling details at the end of most entries.

We’ll be flying in and out of Edinburgh, Scotland and when I told my brother this awhile back, he said Oh, you must watch Outlander.

Somehow, I missed out on this popular TV series as it aired, but we got right to it and are now up to speed on all things Claire and Jamie. What a great show! And timely for us, not only because we’re headed to Scotland, but because the characters end up involved in the American Revolution – the events of which our country is celebrating now.

While in Scotland, I’m going to have to bite my tongue not to deploy some of the Gaelic lingo we’ve picked up over the course of 101 episodes. I’m sure the Scots are as enthused about that as they are about tourists parading around in kilts. Which is to say, not at all. But I’m guessing I’ll sneak a few phrases into this blog here and there.

We leave in early July; check back soon for more about our plan.

Pedaler Report

Although I’m a regular bike rider, I recently realized I’ve been lagging. The bike tours we’ve booked are supposed to be of moderate level, but it dawned on me that I better get my butt in gear, so I’ll be ready to ride day-after-day.  On our past few bike tours, those of us on regular bikes (vs. e-bikes) are in the minority; I don’t want to be the one rider making everyone else wait when it’s time for lunch.

I made it my training goal to ride most every day; some long rides interspersed with some short ones that include hill repeats. Today was a hill repeat ride; here are my six “peaks.”   This is a short hill with a max grade of 12%, but only for a few pedal’s worth.
