As you can see, it took several modes of transportation to get here but I’m now settled in Lucca, recovering from jet/tram/bus lag. That plane in the photo is the actual one I was on for the longest, ~ 10 hour flight (Denver to Munich). It was huge and even had an upstairs, which those of us traveling in steerage were not allowed to see. But for once, I have no complaints. All my flights were on time, and I had sufficient layover time to get gate to gate. Best yet, the downstairs of the huge plane was only ½ full and I had a three-seat row to myself. I was able to curl up and sorta-sleep for a few hours.
I arrived at my B&B in Lucca at around 3:30 pm and after settling and showering, explored the famous Mura di Lucca, the city’s defensive walls that date from the 1500-1600s. Today the walls are topped with a lovely tree-lined path, perfect for walking, jogging, and casual cycling. The distance is a little over 4 km, just over 2 miles, so it didn’t take me long to walk it. Knowing that restaurant food is scarce after 3 and before 7pm, I stopped at the end for a little sustenance.
The beautiful building in the background is the Cappella Musicale Santa Cecilia, apparently closed to the public. I had a hard time finding information about, it, but here is what someone said in a google review:
That's it for now. I'll update again soon on what looks like a few beautiful weather days for exploring Lucca.
